Embracing Fall Favourites, Before It’s Too Late

Two Simple Drinks To Fall In Love With This Month!

I think it’s just the theme of 2022. No, I’m not talking TikTok dance challenges, or  the return of low-rise jeans, I’m not talking about political mayhem, or scary global affairs, or that strange Crocs’ revival (why…just why?), or even that Elton John/Britney Spears collab that has been all anyone can talk about. To me, 2022’s constant is how QUICKLY the time seems to be passing. I look back on my old posts, and I’ve noticed saying things like, “It’s Fall already?! Where did Summer go?!”

And now I’m back to say the same thing about Winter. Yes, yes, we’ve got plenty of time technically before the official Winter solstice. Maybe it’s just because I live in Ontario, but the weather has been beating us to the deadline this year. Plus, we all know the second November 1st hits, Miriah Carey’s magic Christmas elves hypnotize every radio DJ and retail Spotify playlist around the world to officially begin the holiday season.

I digress.

My point is, I slowly feel harvest season slipping through my fingers, and I want to hold on to it as long as I can. My favourite way to do that? Creating DELICIOUS seasonal drinks, of course.

Autumn Fizz

See the video below for the FULL story (oh my goodness, it’s kind of embarrassing), but essentially, it boils down to this:

  • 2 oz of gin. I used Collective Arts’ gin - an absolute favourite. It’s local to me too, which is always a selling point.

  • 1/4 oz of lemon juice

  • Splash of agave

Instructions:

  • Shake everything in your shaker.

  • Top with sparkling apple cider.

  • Garnish with thyme and an apple slice!

Hold the balsamic…watch ’til the end of the video for the reference.

Blume’s Pumpkin Spice Latte Blend

If you’ve never heard of Blume, they create SUPERFOOD lattes! And I wish I’d discovered them a million years ago.

Blume values “Supporting a no compromise wellness journey by recreating your favourite lattes with the magic of superfoods.”

Your typical Pumpkin Spice Latte from a commercial coffee shop is made from espresso, milk, and sugary syrups. That TOTALLY compromises digestive health (especially for families like mine). Blume’s Pumpkin Spice Blend is made with real pumpkin. Syrups, dairy, and caffeine have been switched out for whole superfood ingredients. I know what you’re thinking, “But Carolyn, I NEED espresso to function!” You can always add a shot ;) That’s typically how I enjoy it.

As the time passes quickly, and our pumpkins slowly rot, it’s important to give thanks for and acknowledge the beauty that exists in the autumnal season. That is, at least, until those seemingly magical 13 introductory chimes of Mariah’s wintery anthem creep in, and absolutely everything turns red and green.

Enjoy having that song in your head for the rest of the day.

In the mean time - try out these beverages! I’ll be back with winter inspired ones in a month or two.
